NEXTCELL presented at the Center for Battery Safety Interim Workshop in Rome

CIC energiGUNE presented the NEXTCELL project at the 1st European Interim Workshop of the Center for Battery Safety, held in June 2026 at the Temple University Rome Campus, Italy.

The workshop brought together researchers and experts working on battery safety to discuss recent advances in areas including battery hazard identification, risk assessment, safety-by-design approaches, testing and crash safety.

Representing CIC energiGUNE, delivered an oral presentation on behalf of the NEXTCELL project, showcasing the project’s work towards the development of a new generation of high-performance lithium-ion batteries based on a fully gellified cell concept.

NEXTCELL aims to improve battery performance while addressing key challenges related to safety, sustainability and manufacturing costs. Its innovative approach combines gellified electrodes and separator with a high-voltage-stable gel electrolyte, while also exploring advanced testing and modelling approaches to optimise cell performance and safety.

The participation in the Rome workshop provided an opportunity to share NEXTCELL’s research with specialists in battery safety and to exchange knowledge on approaches for developing safer and more reliable battery technologies.
